First Merino/Silk
At Purl City Yarns on Sunday, I picked up some nice green merino/silk top to play with. It's the first time I've worked with silk since the first spinning lesson 18 months ago. The silk gives it a lovely sheen, but it can sometimes make it difficult to keep a consistent width of yarn as it occasionally draws a big chunk of silk into the twist.
This is the two-plied result. Not bad at all (apart from the little over twisted bit under the left of the coin, but I'll sort that out when it's skeined up!). There was a fair bit more on one bobbin than the other and I used the remainder up using the Andean plying technique for the first time. If you've not come across this, it's a way of winding yarn around in a special loop that can be plied from both ends without tangling and it's a bit magic.
